Specialist teaching

Every child who thinks and learns differently deserves support that meets them where they are.
As an experienced specialist teacher, I help children progress academically and develop emotional regulation, executive function skills, and self-advocacy in a way that feels natural and empowering.
By working closely with families, I create strategies that build confidence, and help children feel understood—so they can thrive at home, in school, and beyond.
Reading: Building Confidence, One Page at a Time
Reading struggles can shake a child’s confidence, but with the right support, they can develop skills at their own pace. Using multi-sensory techniques, and high quality and engaging texts, I help children bridge gaps in phonics, fluency, and comprehension. By meeting them where they are, and making learning enjoyable, we create a path toward reading success—without the frustration.
Maths: Demystifying and Building Confidence
Maths anxiety is real, but learning can be engaging, and fun. I use hands-on materials to make abstract concepts more accessible. By focusing on understanding rather than speed, we fill gaps, build number confidence, and develop problem-solving skills in a way that feels achievable.
Writing: Getting Ideas onto the Page
For many children, writing feels overwhelming, whether it’s getting thoughts onto paper, forming letters, or structuring sentences. I use hands-on strategies, storytelling games, and step-by-step support to make writing feel less daunting. By breaking tasks into manageable steps and focusing on progress, not perfection, we build confidence and fluency—one word at a time.
Emotional Regulation: Helping Big Feelings Make Sense
Struggling in school often comes with frustration, anxiety, or self-doubt. Through gentle coaching, movement-based activities, and practical strategies, I support children in understanding and managing their emotions. Teaching regulation and resilience techniques in a safe, supportive space, can help them navigate challenges with more confidence and ease.
Spelling: Making Words Stick
Spelling doesn’t have to feel like a guessing game. Using pattern recognition, word-building activities, and chalk, playdoh, games and paint, I help children understand the "why" behind words. Instead of rote memorization, we explore spelling rules in a way that makes sense, helping them feel more in control of their learning.
Self-Awareness and Self-Advocacy: Finding Their Voice
Understanding their own strengths, challenges, and learning needs helps children feel more empowered. I help them develop self-awareness, communication skills, and self-advocacy strategies so they can express their needs at school and beyond. By fostering a growth mindset and celebrating progress, we build the foundation for lifelong learning and better resilience.
